National Champion Hope Volleyball No. 1 In Final AVCA Rankings

The national champion Hope College volleyball team tops the final American Volleyball Coaches Association 2014 NCAA Division III poll of the season.

Coach Becky Schmidt's Flying Dutch totaled 1,574 points to lead the rankings.

Hope finished ahead of No. 2 Emory, Georgia, with 1,506 points, No. 3 Calvin with 1,451 points, No. 4 Wisconsin-Stevens Point with 1,356 points and No. 5 Wittenberg, Ohio, with 1,316 points.

Hope received 62 of 63 possible first-place votes. The other first-place vote went to Calvin.

The Flying Dutch finished the 2014 season with a school-record 34-2 overall record. They defeated Emory in five sets to claim their first national championships. 

Hope earned its third regional championship and a share of its 13th Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association title this season.
