Molly Meyer's second-place performance in the 200-yard backstroke highlighted the first day for the Hope College women's swimming & diving team at the Wheaton (Illinois) Invitational on Friday.
The two-day event concludes on Saturday, Dec. 6. Preliminaries begin at 10 a.m. Central, while the finals starting at 5 p.m. CST.
The Flying Dutch are fifth at the five-team meet with 169 points.
Meyer, a sophomore from South Bend, Indiana (John Adams HS), posted the runner-up effort in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2 minutes, 8.07 seconds.

Hope finished fifth in the 200 freestyle relay. Meyer, freshman Amy Larsen of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Forest Hills Northern HS), junior Klare Northuis of Holland, Michigan (Holland HS), and senior Emily Weber of Milan, Michigan (Milan HS), went 1:38.88.
The Flying Dutch also were fifth in the 800 freestyle relay. Meyer, junior Hannah Larson of Jackson, Michigan (Jackson HS), freshman Chloe Palajac of Dearborn, Michigan (Dearborn HS), and junior Lindsay Wiederhold of Plainwell, Michigan (Plainwell HS), went 7:56.68.
Junior Jorgie Watson of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Catholic Central HS), came in eighth in the 100 breaststroke. She had a time of 1:08.27.
Wiederhold placed eighth in the 500 freestyle. She had a time of 5:14.0.
