Flying Dutch Second After First Day Of MIAA Swimming & Diving Finals

The Hope College women's swimming & diving team opened the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championships by placing second in the 800-yard freestyle relay on Wednesday.

The four-day meet resumes on Thursday at Calvin College. Preliminaries are at 10 a.m., while the finals are at 5:30 p.m.

The Flying Dutch posted a time of 7 minutes, 43.87 seconds in the 800 freestyle relay. The relay of sophomore Hannah Larson of Jackson (Jackson HS), sophomore Klare Northuis of Holland (Holland HS), sophomore Lindsay Wiederhold of Plainwell (Plainwell HS) and junior Luisa Burgess of Pittsburgh, Pa. (Taylor Allderice HS), finished behind Calvin's swim of 7:42.39.

Hope is second with 34 points. The Flying Dutch trail Calvin by six points.
