The Hope College women's swimming & diving team closed the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championships by winning three events and securing second place on Saturday at Calvin College.

The Flying Dutch finished with 768 points. Calvin College (805) won the six-team event.

Sophomore Jorgie Watson of Grand Rapids (Catholic Central HS) captured the MIAA title in 200-yard breaststroke. She had a time of 2 minutes, 23.65 seconds. Teammate Michelle Hance placed third at 2:27.76.

Sophomore Lindsay Wiederhold of Plainwell (Plainwell HS) won the 200 butterfly by posting a time of 2:09.22.

The Flying Dutch closed the meet by winning the 400 freestyle relay. Sophomore Michelle Hance of Noblesville, Ind. (Noblesville HS), sophomore Hannah Larson of Jackson (Jackson HS), freshman Molly Meyer of South Bend, Ind. (John Adams HS), and sophomore Klare Northuis of Holland (Holland HS) had a time of 3:30.87.

In addition on Saturday, Hope sophomore Sarah Sheridan of Richmond, Ind. (Richmond HS), was named MIAA Diver of the Year after the meet. Sheridan won the 1-meter and 3-meter events.

Meyer took second in the 200 backstroke by clocking a time of 2:05.23. Two of her teammates also scored: Larson in third at 2:06.16 and senior Maria Kieft of Spring Lake (Spring Lake HS) in fifth at 2:08.84.

Northuis was runner-up in the 100 freestyle. She had a time of 52.53 seconds. Teammate Mikayla Freyling of Alto (Grand Rapids South Christian HS) came in eighth at 54.79.

Senior Bethany Schmall of Portage (Portage Central HS) finished seventh in the 1,650 freestyle with a time of 18:35.38.
