The Hope College men's track & field team posted 14 top-five performances in its first outdoor meet of the season on Saturday.
The Flying Dutchmen finished as high as second in two events at the Rhodes (Tenn.) Open.
Senior James Rogers of Saginaw (Valley Lutheran HS) was runner-up in the 1-mile run. He had a time of 4 minutes, 17.20 seconds. Freshman Cameron Jones of Holland (Black River HS) came in fifth in the 4:20.83.
Senior Evan Finch of Ann Arbor (Pioneer HS) came in second in the shot put. He had a top throw of 41-3 ¾.
The Flying Dutchmen also had the next two best throws: sophomore Taylor Myer of Ludington (Ludington HS) in fourth at 37-8 ½ and sophomore Gregory Glebe in fifth at 37-6 ½.
The Flying Dutchmen recorded three of the top five times in the 3,000 steeplechase: junior Zach Zandbergen of Grandville (Grandville HS) in third at 9:57.24, freshman Tyler Brinks of Commerce Township (Walled Lake Northern HS) in fourth at 9:57.68 and freshman Nicholas Salomon of Troy (Detroit Jesuit HS) in fifth at 10;26.73.
Junior Zach Brandwein of Crystal Lake, Ill. (Crystal Lake Central HS), placed third in high jump at 6-0 ¾.
Senior Keenan Erickson of Farmington Hills (Farmington HS) took third in the hammer throw with a throw of 137-05. Finch was fourth at 136-01.
Glebe finished fourth in the discus at 117-04. Erickson was fifth at 116-09.
Junior Tim Simon of Richland (Gull Lake HS) placed fifth in the 800 at 1:57.60.
