Senior Matthew Johnson of White Lake (Saint Mary's Prep) came in second place in the javelin to lead the Hope College men's track & field team on Friday at the Emory (Ga.) Invitational.
Johnson had a top throw of 48.84 meters. The two-day invitational concludes Saturday, March 22, in Atlanta.
Hope placed fifth and sixth in the 3,000 steeplechase. Freshman Tyler Brinks of Commerce Township (Walled Lake Northern HS) posted a time of 9:49.17, while junior Zach Zandbergen of Grandville (Grandville HS)) crossed at 9:49.74.
The Flying Dutchmen finished seventh in the distance medley. Senior Samuel Pederson of Mt. Prospect, Ill. (Prospect HS), freshman Robert Frakes of Ann Arbor (Pioneer HS), senior Jesse Henkel of Erie (Mason HS) and senior Erik Gonzalez of Athens (Athens HS) had a time of 11:25.86.
Senior David Dolfin of Hingham, Wis. (Ootsburg HS) was eighth in the 400 hurdles with a time of 57.97.
