The Hope College softball team scored a season-high 12 runs in a game while splitting with North Park (Ill.) University on Saturday.
The visiting Flying Dutch won the first nonleague game 12-6 but was edged in the nightcap 6-5 on a walkoff wild pitch.
. Hope is now 6-7 on the season.
In the opener, the Flying Dutch's top three batters combined to go 8-for-14 with seven RBIs and five runs scored.
Sophomore centerfielder Autumn Anderson of Dorr (Wayland HS) went 3-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored from the leadoff spot.
Sophomore second baseman Jenna Maury of Lawton (Lawton HS), who batted second, batted 2-for-4 with a two-run triple and two runs scored. She topped Hope with three RBIs.
Junior first baseman Peyton Wells of Rockford (Rockford HS) went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. She batted third.
Hope scored four runs in both the fourth inning for a 6-4 lead and in the seventh to extend its lead to 12-6.
Winning pitcher Natalie Hiser of Westland (Livonia Churchill HS) tossed a complete game and improved her record to 5-1. She scattered nine hits and five earned runs over seven innings with 10 strikeouts and two walks.
In the nightcap, Anderson had three more hits, two of which were doubles. Hope tied the score at 5-5 in the top of the seventh with two runs. North Park (7-8) put the winning run on third with no outs two batters into its at-bat, then scored her on a wild pitch.
