Four standouts on the Hope College softball team have been selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Softball Teams by the College Sports Communicators organization: center fielder Kate DeMann, third baseman Terin Maynard, second baseman Macy Verbeek, and first baseman Jalen Fossitt.
Eligible nominees must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically; have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale); and have either competed in 90 percent of the institution's games played or must start in at least 66 percent of the institution's games or pitched in 35 innings or made at least 17 appearances.
DeMann started all 41 games for the Flying Dutch, who finished the season with a 28-13 overall record. The senior neuroscience major from Byron Center, Michigan (South Christian) led Hope with 20 stolen bases while hitting .339 with 35 runs scored and 27 RBIs. DeMann recorded a 1.000 fielding percentage with 39 putouts and six assists.Â
Maynard topped the Flying Dutch with a career-best .457 batting average in 31 games. The junior exercise science major from Grand Rapids, Michigan (Jenison) collected 43 hits, including three home runs, five triples, and five doubles. An All-MIAA First Team selection, Maynard totaled 42 runs scored and 28 RBIs.
Verbeek hit a career-high .345 in 41 games this season. The junior exercise science major from Grandville, Michigan (Calvin Christian) totaled 41 hits, including seven doubles and one triple, 27 RBIs, and 23 runs scored.
Fossitt made 101 putouts and batted .317 in 38 games this season. The sophomore from Onondaga, Michigan (Leslie), recorded 33 hits, including seven doubles, 20 RBIs and 19 runs scored.
