Box Score The Hope College women's tennis team overtook Albion College for second place in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association standings by defeating the Britons 9-0 on the road on Wednesday.
The Flying Dutch raised their record to 13-5 overall and 6-1 in league play. They can secure the No. 2 seed in next week's MIAA Tournament on Saturday with a win at Olivet College.
Hope had five players win both in doubles and singles play.
Freshman Nancy Benda of Birmingham (Seaholm HS) won a three-setter at No. 1 doubles and No. 1 singles, while junior Carli Capestany of Hudsonville (Hudsonville HS) won at No. 1 doubles and No. 3 singles.
Sophomore Claire Cooper of Williamston (Williamston HS) claimed a three-set win at No. 2 singles and won with sophomore Anna Garcia of Battle Creek (Lakeview HS) at No. 2 doubles. Garcia won her match at No. 6 singles.
Freshman Paige Courts of Caledonia (Grand Rapids South Christian HS) won in straight sets at No. 4 singles and teamed with senior Stephanie Huffman of Grand Rapids (Forest Hills Northern HS) for victory at No. 3 doubles.
