Flying Dutch Blank Albion, Rise To Second In MIAA Women's Tennis

The Hope College women's tennis team overtook Albion College for second place in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association standings by defeating the Britons 9-0 on the road on Wednesday.

The Flying Dutch raised their record to 13-5 overall and 6-1 in league play. They can secure the No. 2 seed in next week's MIAA Tournament on Saturday with a win at Olivet College.

Hope had five players win both in doubles and singles play.

Freshman Nancy Benda of Birmingham (Seaholm HS) won a three-setter at No. 1 doubles and No. 1 singles, while junior Carli Capestany of Hudsonville (Hudsonville HS) won at No. 1 doubles and No. 3 singles.

Sophomore Claire Cooper of Williamston (Williamston HS) claimed a three-set win at No. 2 singles and won with sophomore Anna Garcia of Battle Creek (Lakeview HS) at No. 2 doubles. Garcia won her match at No. 6 singles.

Freshman Paige Courts of Caledonia (Grand Rapids South Christian HS) won in straight sets at No. 4 singles and teamed with senior Stephanie Huffman of Grand Rapids (Forest Hills Northern HS) for victory at No. 3 doubles.
