The Hope College softball team used a walkoff homer in one game and a seven-run inning in another to sweep Olivet College on Monday.
The Flying Dutch won 3-1 and 11-4 at Wolters Stadium to remain unbeaten in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play.
Hope (10-9 overall) matched Trine atop the MIAA with a 4-0 league record.
In the first game, rightfielder Sammi Adams of Griffith, Ind., (Griffith HS), delivered her first home run of the season in dramatic fashion. Her two-out blast over the left-center fence was a two-run walkoff that plated third baseman Kelsey Cooper of Romeo (Romeo HS), who led off the bottom of the seventh with a single.
Winning pitcher Natalie Hiser of Westland (Livonia Churchill HS) tossed a one-hit complete game. Hiser (7-2) struck out nine and walked three.
Hope took a 1-0 lead in the fifth when pinch-runner Becca Phillips of Wayland (Wayland HS) scored on a RBI groundout from pinch-hitter Emma Page. Olivet tied the score with a run in the sixth.
In the second game, the Flying Dutch scored the final 10 runs of the game after Olivet grabbed a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the first.
Hope took the lead for good with a seven-run sixth that resulted in a 10-4 lead.
The rally started with a two-run single from winning pitcher Kate Laverty of Eaton Rapids (Eaton Rapids HS) and a two-run double from centerfielder Autumn Anderson of Wayland (Wayland HS).
Laverty (3-6) scattered six hits and two runs over seven innings. She struck out eight and walked five. Two of the runs Laverty allowed were unearned.
Leftfielder Taylor Krumm of Commerce Township (Walled Lake Central HS) , first baseman Peyton Wells of Rockford (Rockford HS), Anderson and Krumm each finished with two hits for the Flying Dutch. Krumm had a team-high three runs scored.
Hope now has a four-game win streak.
