Seven RBIs from designated player Julie Sobieski helped the Hope College softball team hold on for a 15-12 win over Calvin College in the MIAA Tournament Friday in Angola, Ind., in completion of a game suspended Thursday due to darkness.

The Flying Dutch (23-14) advance to Friday's 2 p.m. championship game against either Calvin or Trine University. Calvin and Trine play an elimination game at noon Friday.

Sobieski, a junior from St. Charles, Illinois (East HS), finished 5-for-5 with a two-run homer, a pair of two-run doubles and a RBI single.

Hope grabbed a 6-0 lead in the top of the second inning by scoring six runs with two outs.

Calvin answered with eight runs in the third and took an 11-10 lead in the fifth.

The Flying Dutch put together a three-run rally in the sixth that was capped by Sobieski's run-scoring single. Hope pushed its lead to 15-11 in the seventh, the last run on a RBI single from freshman second baseman Katrina Ellis of Goodrich (Goodrich HS).

Shortstop Jenna Maury of Lawton, Michigan (Lawton HS), had three runs scored, while Sobieski and centerfielder Autumn Anderson of Wayland, Michigan (Wayland HS), each scored two runs.

Third baseman Kelsey Cooper of Romeo, Michigan (Romeo HS), went 4-for-4 for the Flying Dutch.

Winning pitcher Olivia Vacik of Bollingbrook, Ill. (Neuqua Valley HS), scattered six hits and three runs over 2 1/3 innings of relief.

Sophomore Kate Laverty of Eaton Rapids (Eaton Rapids HS) earned her second save of the season by allowing one hit and one run in two innings of relief.
