Hope College's Tyler Brinks qualified for this summer's USA Track & Field Junior Outdoor Championships while competing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Friday.
The freshman from Commerce Township, Michigan (Walled Lake Northern HS), posted a time of 9 minutes, 27.96 seconds at the North Central College Gregory Invitational in Naperville, Illinois.
Brinks, pictured, finished 10th overall.
The 2014 USA Track & Field Junior Outdoor Championships are July 5-6 at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Ore. They feature athletes under the age of 20 and are a qualifier for the 2014 International Association of Athletics Federations World Junior Championships that are July 22-27 in Eugene.
A select number of Hope male and female athletes competed in Friday's meet at North Central.
Senior James Rogers of Saginaw, Michigan (Valley Lutheran HS), placed fifth in the 1,500 meters. He clocked a time of 3:55.21.
Freshman Cameron Jones of Holland, Michigan (Black River HS), took 17th in the 800 with a run of 1:56.44.
Senior Catherine Calyore of Naples, Florida (Barron Collier HS), came in fourth in two events. She had a 200-meter time of 25.53 seconds and a 400-meter time of 57.89.
Sophomore Jane Pearson of Lake City, Michigan (Northern Michigan Christian HS), finished fourth in the 100 hurdles with a run of 15.50 seconds.
Senior Sheri McCormack of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS), recorded a fifth-place time in the 800 meters of 2:14.52.
