The Hope College men's track & field team claimed a second individual title at the MIAA Field Day on Friday and finished the two-day meet at Alma College second in the overall standings.
Senior James Rogers of Saginaw, Michigan (Valley Lutheran HS), won the 1,500 meters with a run of 4 minutes, 2.64 seconds. Teammate Benjamin Zank of Midland, Michigan (H.H. Dow HS), was third at 4:05.75.
Hope totaled 158 points, second only in the seven-team event to Calvin College's 201. The Flying Dutchmen also won the long jump on Thursday with senior Steffon Mayhue of Holland, Michigan (Holland HS), repeating as MIAA champion.
Hope also placed second in three events on Friday. The Flying Dutchmen finished runner-up in the 4x100 relay. Mayhue, sophomore Bryce Richards of Eaton Rapids, Michigan (Eaton Rapids HS), freshman Matthew Pelyhes of Augusta, Michigan (Gull Lake HS), and sophomore Boone Marois of Traverse City, Michigan (Central HS), clocked a time of 43.03.
Freshman Ross Whitman of Monroe, Michigan (St. Mary Catholic Central HS), came in second in the 110 hurdles. He had a time of 15.53 seconds. Senior David Dolfin of Hingham, Wisconsin (Oostburg HS), was fifth at 16.31.
Senior Evan Finch of Ann Arbor, Michigan (Pioneer HS), recorded a runner-up finish in the hammer throw. He had a toss of 154 feet, 9 inches. Senior Keenan Erickson of Farmington Hills, Michigan (Farmington HS), was third at 149-6.
Marois finished third in the 100 meters. He had a time of 11.07 seconds. Pelyhes was fifth at 11.18.
Marois also placed third in the 200 meters with a run of 22.21. Pelyhes was fourth at 22.48.
Freshman Cameron Jones of Holland (Black River HS) took third in the 800 with a run of 1:56.99. Teammate Tim Simon of Richland, Michigan (Gull Lake HS), was fourth at 1:57.48.
Freshman Ryan Arndt of Holland, Michigan (Zeeland West HS), placed third in the 400 hurdles with a time of 58.15. Dolfin came in fourth at 58.84, while Whitman was fifth at 59.46.
