Hope College tennis players Nancy Benda and Carli Capestany concluded successful seasons on Thursday during the first day of the NCAA Division III Individual Women's Tennis Championships in Claremont, Calif.
Benda, a freshman from Birmingham, Michigan (Seaholm HS), lost in the first-round of the 32-player singles championships. She was defeated 6-3, 6-2 by Bronte Goodhue of Sewanee (Tennessee).
Benda and Capestany, a junior from Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville HS), also dropped their first match in the 16-team doubles championships. They fell to Shelby Harris and Lindsay Raulston of Mary Washington (Virginia) 6-1, 6-1.
Benda finishes with a 16-11 singles record.
Benda and Capestany were 23-7 as a doubles a team. They tied for the third most doubles wins in a single season in school history.
