Hope Women's Tennis Falls To Eighth-Ranked Foe In D-III Tournament

The Hope College women's tennis team lost to eighth-ranked Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) 5-2 in Friday's regional semifinal at the NCAA Division III Tournament in Chicago.

Coach Adam Ford's Flying Dutch finished the 2014 season with a 17-6 record. It was their third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and ninth overall.

Hope earned one point apiece in singles and doubles play.

The No. 1 doubles team of freshman Nancy Benda of Birmingham, Michigan (Seaholm HS), and junior Carli Capestany of Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville HS), defeated Carnegie Mellon's Katie Cecil and Bryn Raschke 9-8.

At No. 1 singles, Benda beat Carnegie Mellon's Angela Pratt 6-4, 7-5.

The match was played indoors at the XS Tennis facility. University of Chicago was the regional host.
