Van Andel Soccer Stadium is a state-of-the-art facility that offers stadium-style and bleacher seating for 1,400 fans, a concession stand, public restrooms, two locker rooms, a training room, a meeting room for visiting teams along with a ticket booth and press box.
The Flying Dutchmen moved to Van Andel Soccer Stadium during the 2009 season and have a winning percentage of .769 in four seasons there.
Thru the 2013 season, Hope has a 39-9-3 overall record at Van Andel Soccer Stadium, including a 26-7-2 mark in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play.
Van Andel Soccer Stadium features terrace areas for picnics and tailgating as well as lighting for night games and artificial turf. It also is the home to women's soccer, men's lacrosse and women's lacrosse varsity teams at Hope.
Alums David ('83) and Carol ('81) Girod Van Andel were lead donors on the $5.3 million project.
David serves as chairman and CEO of the Grand Rapids-based Van Andel Institute, as chairman of IdeaSphere Inc. and on the board of Amway Corporation. David is the co-owner and chairman of the Grand Rapids Griffins, an American Hockey League team, and is active in numerous business and community organizations including The Right Place, Inc., and The Economic Club. He also is a Trustee of Hope College.
As Executive Director of the David and Carol Van Andel Foundation and through her extensive involvement as a volunteer and board member, Carol has provided leadership and support to dozens of West Michigan and national organizations. Carol is a Trustee of the Michigan Colleges Foundation and the Davenport University Governing Board, and is a member of the Van Andel Education Institute Advisory Council. She is a Board Member of Grand Action, the Public Museum of Grand Rapids Friends Foundation, the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids and Bethany Christian Services, and is a past president and board member of numerous other organizations.
The first men's game, played under the lights on September 29, 2009, was a 1-0 Flying Dutchmen victory over MIAA opponent Albion.
