Sophomore Winton Munch of Traverse City, Michigan (Traverse City Central HS), fired a 2-under-par 69 to fuel the Hope College men's golf team to a three-stroke victory at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Jamboree on Saturday.
It is the 20th time a Hope golfer has posted a sub-70 round in MIAA Tournament play. Munch carded a 68 last season on the same course: Zollner Golf Club in Angola, Indiana.
The Flying Dutchmen recorded a team score of 288. They finished three strokes ahead of runner-up Trine and six ahead of third-place Calvin.
Hope extended its lead in the overall standings over Trine to four strokes.
Senior Collin Breit, pictured, of Muskegon, Michigan (Western Michigan Christian HS), tied for third on Saturday by shooting a 71.
Senior Ben Lanting of Littleton, Colorado (Front Range Christian HS), was one stroke behind Breit in sixth place.
Seniors Ben Lewis of Grand Haven, Michigan (Grand Haven HS), and Evan Telzerow of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Forest Hills Northern HS), both shot 76s to tie for 15th place.
Hope returns to action on Monday, Sept. 29, with the MIAA Jamboree hosted by Calvin College.
