Evan Telzerow and Winton Munch gave the Hope College men's golf team a timely one-two punch at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Jamboree on Monday.
The pair posted the lowest rounds among 39 golfers to help the Flying Dutchmen win the eight-team event and nearly triple their lead in the overall standings.
Telzerow, a senior from Grand Rapids, Michigan (Forest Hills Northern HS), fired a 1-under-par 71 at Watermark Country Club in Grand Rapids for first place. Telzerow is pictured at left.
Munch, a sophomore from Traverse City, Michigan (Traverse City Central HS), finished at even-par for second.
Hope won its fourth MIAA Jamboree with a team score of 297. The Flying Dutchmen came six shots ahead of runner-up Calvin. Trine (304) took third and placed ahead of Adrian (311), Albion (312), Kalamazoo (322), Olivet (346) and Alma (361).
Hope now leads the overall standings by 11 strokes over second-place Trine and 24 over third-place Calvin. There are two jamborees remaining, including Thursday's round Hope hosts at Wuskowhan Players Club.
The Flying Dutchmen are seeking back-to-back MIAA championships and their 11th in 15 years.
On Monday, Hope senior Ben Lewis of Grand Haven, Michigan (Grand Haven HS), tied for 11th with a 76.
Senior Collin Breit of Muskegon, Michigan (Western Michigan Christian HS), rounded out the Flying Dutchmen's scoring with a 15th-place 78.
Senior Ben Lanting of Littleton, Colorado (Front Range Christian HS), shot a 79.
