The Hope College women's swimming & diving team won seven events in a 157-143 loss at Calvin on Saturday in a dual meet featuring two of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's top teams.
The Flying Dutch went 4-1 in league dual meets this season, as did Calvin and Kalamazoo. The MIAA champion will be determined solely at the February 11-14 league meet hosted by Hope at Holland Community Aquatic Center.
Junior Lindsay Wiederhold of Plainwell, Michigan (Plainwell HS), led a 1-2-3 sweep in the 500 freestyle for Hope with a swim of 5:18.75. Freshman Chloe Palajac of Dearborn, Michigan (Dearborn HS), and junior Virginia Cotterall of Spring Lake, Michigan (Spring Lake HS), were second and third, respectively, in 5:24.3 and 5:35.84.
Wiederhold also took first in the 1,000 freestyle. She finished in 10:57.16.
Junior Sarah Sheridan of Richmond, Indiana (Richmond HS), posted the top performance in 1- and 3-meter diving. She won the 1-meter event with a score of 270.9 points and the 3-meter event with 259.2 points.
Sophomore Molly Meyer of South Bend, Indiana (John Adams HS), won the 100 backstroke in 59.85, the 100 butterfly in 1:00.25 and the 200 backstroke in 200 backstroke in 2:10.11. Freshman Natalie Vela of Clarkston, Michigan (Clarkston HS), was second in the 100 butterfly in 1:01.45.
Hope won the 200 medley relay with junior Klare Northuis of Holland, Michigan (Holland HS), junior Jorgie Watson of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Catholic Central HS), Molly Meyer, and senior Emily Weber of Milan, Michigan (Milan HS), clocking a time of 1:51.54.
