Hope College's Sarah Sheridan surpassed her own personal bests in two events during the Grand Valley State University Diving Invitational on Saturday in Allendale.
The sophomore from Richmond, Indiana (Richmond HS), passed her top 11-dive marks in both 1- and 3-meter diving while finishing second in both events. Both of her scores surpassed NCAA Division III qualifying marks.
Sheridan scored 508.05 points from the 3-meter board for second place out of 12 divers. She finished only 1.45 points behind GVSU's Taylor Wiercinski.
Sheridan previously had qualilfied for the NCAA Diving Zone meet on February 27-28 at the University of Chicago that determines who qualifies for the national championship meet in March.
Senior Erica Dunham of Rockford, Michigan (Rockford HS), placed fifth with a score of 392.65 points.
Junior Stephanie Polet of Grandville, Michigan (Grandville HS), came in seventh with 389.25 points.
Sophomore Sarah Carrara of Dexter, Michigan (Dexter HS), placed 12th with 291.1 points.
On 1-meter diving, Sheridan totaled 453.55 points for runner-up honors among seven divers She finished behind Wiercinski, who had 476.5 points.
Dunham finished fifth with 403.45 points.
Hope returns to action on February 11-14 at the MIAA Championships at Holland Community Aquatic Center.
