Hope Women's Swimming & Diving Takes Third At MIAA Relays

The Hope College women's swimming & diving team finished third at the season-opening Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Relays on Saturday in Grand Rapids.

The Flying Dutch totaled 44 points to finish behind Calvin (108) and Albion (76).

Hope won the 1,650-yard freestyle relay. Sophomore Chloe Palajac of Dearborn, Michigan (Dearborn HS), freshman Sydney Asselin of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian HS), and sophomore Elizabeth Fris of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS) posted a swim of 16:13.45.

Hope placed second in the 200 medley relay. Senior Klare Northuis of Holland, Michigan (Holland HS), senior Jorgie Watson of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Catholic Central HS), freshman Elisabeth Craig of Grand Rapids, Michigan (East Grand Rapids HS) and freshman Abigail Brinks of Commerce Township, Michigan (Walled Lake Northern HS) clocked a time of 1:52.03.

The Flying Dutch were runner-up in the 100 breaststroke relay. Watson, Fris, Palajac and Craig recorded a swim of 1:00.21.

Hope finished third in the 200 backstroke relay. Sophomore Rachel Barszcz of Canton, Michigan (Plymouth Canton HS), sophomore Julia Hines of Vienna, Virginia (James Madison HS), freshman Sara Hudson of Novi, Michigan (Pontiac Notre Dame Prep) and Northuis recorded a swim of 1:59.65.

The Flying Dutch took third in the 200 breaststroke relay. Watson, Fris, junior Katie Smith of Mokena, Illinois (Lincoln Way East HS), and sophomore Sarah Zieschang of Austin, Texas (Veritas Academy) went 2:16.22.

Hope came in third in the 500 progressive relay. Junior Mikayla Freyling of Alto, Michigan (Grand Rapids South Christian HS), Brinks, Asselin and Palajac had a time of 4:53.18.

The Flying Dutch placed third in the 200 butterfly relay. Hudson, Katie Smith, sophomore Adrienne Smith of Grand Haven, Michigan (Grand Haven HS), and Craig went 1:54.84.

Hope took third in the 4x100 relay. Watson, Fris, Palajac and Katie Smith had a time of 4:23.51.

The Flying Dutch placed fourth in the 200 freestyle relay. Brinks, Freyling, Asselin and Northuis went 1:43.30.

Hope finished fourth in 100 backstroke relay. Barszcz, Freyling, senior Kayleigh Mullen of Rochester, Michigan (Notre Dame Prep) and Brinks recorded a swim of 56.63.

The Flying Dutch took sixth in the 100 butterfly. Hudson, Northuis, junior Payton Hoff of Clarkston, Michigan (Notre Dame Prep) and Katie Smith went 52.39.

Hope was seventh in the 100 freestyle relay. Hines, freshman Allison Lindquist of Louisville, Colorado (Peak To Peak), Adrienne Smith and senior Virginia Cotterall of Spring Lake, Michigan (Spring Lake HS) went 50.77.

The Flying Dutch return to action on Saturday, Oct. 31 with a dual meet at Kalamazoo. Start time is 11 a.m.
