Hope Men's Golf Wins MIAA Jamboree, Seizes Back Control Of MIAA Lead

Josh Gibson and the Hope College men's golf team seized back control of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association race on Saturday and are one round away from repeating as league champion.

The Flying Dutchmen shot a winning score of 307 during Saturday's MIAA Jamboree in Adrian and claimed the overall lead from Calvin.

Hope is 13 strokes ahead of Calvin heading into next week's final league jamboree after finishing 25 strokes ahead of Calvin on Saturday.

Gibson, pictured, led the Flying Dutchmen by carding a 2-over-par 74 at Lenawee Country Club. The freshman from Grandville, Michigan (Grandville HS), posted the top round to earn medalist honors.

Sophomore Kade Hoeksema of Byron Center, Michigan (Grand Rapids South Christian HS), finished one stroke behind Gibson and tied for second place.

Junior Winton Munch of Traverse City, Michigan (Traverse City Central HS), carded a 76 to place fifth.

Freshman Ben Kramer of Spring Lake, Michigan (Spring Lake HS), rounded out Hope's scoring with an 82 that tied for 12th place.

Freshman Andrew Goble of Brighton, Michigan (Brighton HS), chipped an 86.

The Flying Dutchmen have a seven-jamboree total of 2,118 strokes. They are ahead of Calvin (2,131), Trine (2,143), Kalamazoo (2,175), Adrian (2,198), Albion (2,236), Olivet (2,333), and Alma (2,373).

The top four finishers in the fall season qualify for next spring's NCAA Division III Championships qualifier.

Hope hosts the final MIAA Jamboree on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at Wuskowhan Players Club.
