The Hope College men's cross country team put together one of its best races of the season to finish second at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championships on Saturday in Charlotte, Michigan.
The Flying Dutchmen totaled 55 points to secure runner-up in the overall standings for the fifth consecutive season. Calvin repeated as MIAA champion after finishing first with 20 points.
"The men ran phenomenal," Hope coach Mark Northuis said. "That was one of our best men's races of the year. We mixed it up a little bit. Our guys came and competed."
Senior Joseph Beemer of St. Joseph, Michigan (St. Joseph HS) led the Flying Dutchmen with a fourth-place run in the 8k at Broadway Acres Golf Course of 25 minutes, 27.9 seconds.
Senior Ben Zank of Midland, Michigan (H.H. Dow HS) recorded a seventh-place effort of 25:37.0.
Junior Tyler Brinks of Commerce Township, Michigan (Walled Lake Northern HS) took 13th at 26:01.1.
Junior Julian Morrison of Aurora, Illinois (Waubonsie Valley HS) came in 15th at 2610.4.
Sophomore Ben Pederson of Mount Prospect, Illinois (Mount Prospect HS) rounded out Hope's scoring with a 16th-place time of 26:17.9.
Sophomore Matt Rolain of Rochester, Michigan (Stoney Creek HS) finished 25th at 26:38.6.
Senior Kyle Anderson of Shorewood, Minnesota (Minnetonka HS) was 30th at 26:49.9.

Hope returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 14 at the NCAA Division III regional in Terre Haute, Indiana.
