Diver Sarah Sheridan and swimmers Jorgie Watson and Sydney Asselin won two events apiece to lead the Hope College women's swimming & diving team in a 157-143 dual meet victory at Kalamazoo on Saturday.
It was the first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association dual meet of the season.
Sheridan posted the top diving score on the 1- meter board with 261.65 points. The senior from Richmond, Indiana (Richmond HS) also won on the 3-meter board at 276.80.
Watson won the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.71. The senior from Grand Rapids, Michigan (Catholic Central HS) recorded the fastest time in the 200 breaststroke in 2:34.16. Sophomore Elizabeth Fris of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS) was runner-up in the 200 breaststroke at 2:34.88.
Asselin took first in the 200-yard freestyle at 1 minute, 58.72 seconds. The freshman from Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian HS) clocked the best effort in the 500 freestyle at 5:22.92 seconds. Sophomore Chloe Palajac of Dearborn, Michigan (Dearborn HS) was second at 5:25.51.
Asselin also helped Hope post the best performance in the 400 freestyle relay. Asselin, junior Molly Meyer of South Bend, Indiana (John Adams HS), Palajac and senior Klare Northuis of Holland, Michigan (Holland HS) had a swim of 3:40.40 to win by six-tenths of a second over Kalamazoo.
Hope went 1-2 in the 1,000 freestyle. Fris recorded a winning time of 10:54.88, while Palajac took second at 11:03.94.
Watson and Fris topped the 200 breaststroke at 2:34.16 and 2:34.88, respectively.
The Flying Dutch return to action on Saturday, Nov. 14 when they host Olivet at Kresge Natatorium.
