Molly Meyer placed runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke to top the Hope College women's swimming & diving team on Saturday at the Wheaton Invitational. The junior from South Bend, Indiana (John Adams HS) clocked a time of 57.84 seconds.
The Flying Dutch finished fourth at the six-team, two-day event with 526 points. They were five points behind third-place Wisconsin-Whitewater.
Hope took third in the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays.
The 400 freestyle relay of Meyer, pictured, freshman Abigail Brinks of Commerce Township, Michigan (Walled Lake Northern HS), sophomore Chloe Palajac of Dearborn, Michigan (Dearborn HS) and senior Klare Northuis of Holland, Michigan (Holland HS) recorded a time of 3:34.98.
The 200 medley relay of Meyer, senior Jorgie Watson of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Catholic Central HS), freshman Elisabeth Craig of Grand Rapids, Michigan (East Grand Rapids HS) and Northuis went 1:48.98.
Palajac took fourth in the 400 individual medley with a swim of 4:38.40.
Northuis came in fourth in the 50 freestyle at 24.63 and seventh in the 500 freestyle at 2:00.04.
Watson placed fifth in the 200 breaststroke at 2:30.13.
Freshman Sydney Asselin of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian HS) and sophomore Elizabeth Fris of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS) finished sixth and seventh, respectively in the 1,650 freestyle with times of 18:13.74 and 18:15.91.
Brinks was eighth in the 200 freestyle at 2:00.16.
The Flying Dutch's next meet is January 9 vs. Calvin at Kresge Natatorium.
