Hope Diver Repeats As MIAA Champion In 3-Meter Diving

Diver Sarah Sheridan enjoyed a record-setting day while repeating as Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association 3-meter diving champion on Thursday.

The junior from Richmond, Indiana (Richmond HS), set MIAA and school records during MIAA Championship preliminaries at Holland Community Aquatic Center, then won in the evening's finals with a six-dive score of 539.80 points.

Hope diving coach Zach Golin was proud but not surprised to see Sheridan, pictured, excel.

"I don't know anybody who works as hard as Sarah does, or is more deserving," Golin said. "It's evident how hard she works when she comes to a meet like this and puts it all together. That was awesome to see."

During preliminaries, Sheridan broke the MIAA record with a six-dive effort of 543.30 points.

Sheridan eclipsed the 2009 MIAA record of 491.25 from Calvin's Erica Deur.

Sheridan also beat her school championship-meet record of 490.70 from the 2014 NCAA Division III nationals.

Two other Hope divers also made the 3-meter finals.

Senior Erica Dunham of Rockford, Michigan (Rockford HS), took third with a total of 443.35 points.

Junior Stephanie Polet of Grandville, Michigan (Grandville HS), came in eighth with a score of 377.45 points.

Women's 1-meter diving will be held on Saturday.
