Hope College diver Sarah Sheridan set a school record during Friday's first day of a national championship-qualifying event at the University of Chicago.
The junior from Richmond, Indiana, posted a score of 501.65 points to surpass her previous school record of 474.10 set at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championships earlier this month.
Sheridan finished second in 1-meter diving among 30 participants. The two-time MIAA Diver of the Year will compete in 3-meter diving on Saturday.
Junior Stephanie Polet of Grandville, Michigan (Grandville HS), placed 18th in 1-meter diving with a score of 416.35 points.
The qualifiers for next month's NCAA Division III Championships from this zone meet will be determined after 3-meter diving has concluded.
