Box Score 2 The Hope College softball team totaled 20 runs and 18 hits while defeating Allegheny, Pennsylvania, and Ripon, Wisconsin on Monday in Clermont, Florida.
The Flying Dutch improved to 4-2 on the season.
Hope finished the day with an 8-0 win in six innings against Ripon (0-4).
Freshman second baseman Sierra Mutschler of Wayland, Michigan (Wayland HS), went 2-for-3 with four RBI.
Mutschler knocked in pinch-runner Alex Knorp of Livonia, Michigan (Adlai Stevenson HS), and sophomore Sammi Adams of Griffith, Indiana (Griffith HS), in a four-run first inning.
Mutschler slammed a two-run homer in the third inning that plated pinchrunner Vanessa Brockhouse of Fort Wayne, Indiana (Northrup HS). It was Mutscher's second homer of the season.
Winning pitcher Natalie Hiser of Westland, Michigan (Livonia Churchill HS), tossed a three-hit shutout. Hiser (1-0) struck out six and did not walk a batter.
The Flying Dutch beat Allegheny 12-1 in five innings.
Senior third baseman Kelsey Cooper of Romeo, Michigan (Romeo HS), went 3-for-3 with four RBIs. Cooper draw a bases-loaded walk in the first that sent home Adams, laced a two-run single in the second that scored Julie Sobieski of St. Charles, Illinois (East HS), and Adams and added an RBI single in the fifth that drove in Adams.
Adams went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI.
Winning pitcher Kate Laverty of Eaton Rapids, Michigan (Eaton Rapids HS), scattered one run and two hits over three innings. Laverty (1-0) struck out three.
Hope returns to action on Tuesday when the Flying Dutch face the College of New Jersey and Greenville at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., respectively, in Clermont.
