Box Score 2 The Hope College softball team extended its win streak to four games on Tuesday in Clermont, Florida, by defeating The College of New Jersey 9-2 and Greenville, Illinois 4-1.
The Flying Dutch raised their record to 6-2 overall.
Against The College of New Jersey, winning pitcher Katie Singer (2-1) scattered three hits and two runs over five innings. The freshman from Howell, Michigan (Hartland HS), struck out three and walked two.
Singer helped her cause at the plate by contributing a RBI single in a four-run third that snapped a 1-1 tie and a two-run double in the fifth that plated freshman catcher Hayley Reitsma of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Grand Rapids Christian HS), and senior third baseman Kelsey Cooper of Romeo, Michigan (Romeo HS).
Senior designated player Julie Sobieski of St. Charles, Illinois (East HS), went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Junior centerfielder Autumn Anderson of Dorr, Michigan (Wayland HS), scored twice and had two hits.
Against Greenville, freshman Sydney Jones of South Lyon, Michigan (South Lyon East HS), went the distance while striking out eight. Jones (1-0) yielded four hits but did not walk a batter. Reitsma went 2-for-2 with a RBI single.
Hope returns to action on Thursday when the Flying Dutch play Anderson, Indiana and Smith, Massachusetts at 3 and 5 p.m.
