Box Score 2 The Hope College softball team ran its win streak to six games on Thursday with two more victories in Clermont, Florida, including one over a nationally ranked opponent.
The Flying Dutch (8-2 overall) beat No. 22 Anderson, Indiana 8-2 and Smith, Massachusetts 3-2.
Against Anderson, freshman catcher Hayley Reitsma of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Grand Rapids Christian HS), fueled Hope with six RBIs on two home runs.
Reitsma launched a grand slam in the third inning that snapped a scoreless tie.
Reitsma hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning to close the scoring. She now has three home runs on the season and a team-leading 13 RBI.
Winning pitcher Natalie Hiser of Westland, Michigan (Livonia Churchill HS), allowed one hit and one walk over four innings. Hiser (3-0) struck out one.
Against Smith, freshman second baseman Sierra Mutschler of Wayland, Michigan (Wayland HS), provided all of Hope's offense with a three-run double in the bottom of the first. Mutschler is second on Hope with 12 RBI this season.
Winning pitcher Kate Laverty of Eaton Rapids, Michigan (Eaton Rapids HS), scattered four hits and two runs over four innings. Laverty (2-0) struck out two.
Hope wraps up its spring break trip on Friday with two games: 9 a.m. against Massachusetts College of Arts and Plymouth State.
