Hope College swimmer Molly Meyer clocked the third-fastest 100-yard butterfly in Flying Dutch history on Thursday during the NCAA Division III Championships in Shenandoah, Texas.
The sophomore from South Bend, Indiana (John Adams HS), posted a time of 57.07 seconds during preliminaries and finished 27th out of 41 competitors. The top 16 times advanced to the championship and consolation finals tonight.
The only faster 100 butterfly swims in Flying Dutch history belong to Lisa Smith (56.04 in 2006) and Dawn Hoving (56.43 in 1993).
Meyer will swim next in the 100 backstroke preliminaries on Friday. The morning session of nationals begins at 10 a.m. Central.
Junior Sarah Sheridan of Richmond, Indiana (Richmond HS), also will compete on Friday — in 1-meter diving.
