Box Score 2 The Hope College softball team defeated Massachusetts College of Arts 11-0 in five innings and Plymouth State, N.H., 8-2 in its spring break finale on Friday in Clermont, Florida.
The Flying Dutch (10-2 overall) upped their win streak to eight games.
Against MCLA, winning pitcher Sydney Jones tossed a five-hit shutout. The freshman from South Lyon, Michigan (South Lyon East HS), struck out seven and did not walk a batter.
Senior first baseman Peyton Wells of Rockford, Michigan (Rockford HS), slugged two home runs. A three-run blast in the third extended Hope's lead to 5-0 while a two-run homer in the fourth capped a six-run fourth.
Wells finished with five RBI. Junior centerfielder Autumn Anderson of Dorr, Michigan (Wayland HS), had a team-high three runs scored.
Against Plymouth State, freshman second baseman Sierra Mutschler of Wayland, Michigan (Wayland HS), collected a game-high five RBI with a third-inning sacrifice fly, a two-run, fifth-inning homer and a two-run double in the sixth.
Hope returns to action on Tuesday when the Flying Dutch play a nonleague doubleheader at Aurora, Illinois.
