Box Score 1 Senior Juile Sobieski of St. Charles, Illinois (St. Charles HS), homered as the Hope College softball team split its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opening doubleheader at Alma on Monday.
The Flying Dutch (11-3 overall) rebounded with a 5-3 win in Game 2 after dropping the opener 3-1.
Junior centerfielder Autumn Anderson of Dorr, Michigan (Wayland HS), snapped a 2-2 tie with a two-run single that knocked home junior shortstop Jenna Maury of Lawton, Michigan (Lawton HS), and freshman catcher Hayley Reitsma of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Grand Rapids Christian HS). Anderson is pictured at right.
Sobieski smacked a solo home run in the fifth.
Winning pitcher Sydney Jones of South Lyon, Michigan (South Lyon East HS), allowed two hits, including one solo home run, in two innings of relief. She improved her record to 2-1.
Olivia Vacik of Bolingbrook, Illinois (Neuqua Valley HS), earned her first save of the season with three innings of scoreless relief. She allowed two baserunners while striking out two.
In the opener, Alma (10-10) limited the Flying Dutch to four hits. Senior first baseman Peyton Wells of Rockford, Michigan (Michigan HS), had an RBI double for Hope.
The Scots scored three times in the second inning.
Hope returns to action on Tuesday with its home opener. The Flying Dutch host eighth-ranked Trine at 3:30 p.m. at Wolters Stadium.
