Hope Women's Tennis Serves Up 5-4 Win At Kalamazoo, Takes Over MIAA Lead

The Hope College women's tennis team edged Kalamazoo 5-4 on Saturday to grab sole possession of first place in the MIAA standings.

The 26th-ranked Flying Dutch raised their record to 14-4 overall and 4-0 in MIAA play.

Hope won two of the three doubles matches, and the lead held up as the teams split their six singles matches.

Junior co-captain Anna Garcia of Battle Creek, Michigan (Lakeview HS), earned two points for the Flying Dutch. She beat Sabrina Dass at No. 3 singles 6-3 and teamed with junior junior Marie Holaway of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS), for an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles.

Freshman Natalie Rahrig of Fort Wayne, Indiana (Bishop Luers HS), also had a hand in two points for Hope. Rahrig, pictured, defeated Cheryl Zhang at No. 5 singles 6-2 and paired with sophomore Kate Mader of Granger, Indiana (Penn HS), at No. 3 doubles for an 8-4 win.

The Flying Dutch dropped regionally ranked Kalamazoo to 10-6 overall and 3-1 in MIAA play.

Hope returns to action on Tuesday when the Flying Dutch host Albion at 4 p.m.
