Winton Munch Shoots 70, Hope Men's Golf Extends Lead At NCAA Qualifier

Winton Munch carded a 1-under-par 70 at Wuskowhan Players Club on Friday as the Hope College men's golf team extended its lead at the MIAA's NCAA Division III Championship qualifier.

The Flying Dutchmen head into Saturday's final round with a 36-hole total of 572 that puts them 15 strokes ahead of second-place Trine, 30 in front of third-place Calvin and 35 up on fourth-place Adrian.

The cumulative leader after 54 holes receives the league's automatic berth to next month's Division III Championship.

Hope shot the second round's lowest score at 288 and finished five strokes better than Trine.

Munch, a sophomore from Traverse City, Michigan (Central HS), carded 35s on both nines to claim medalist honors.

Senior Evan Telzerow of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Forest Hills Northern HS), carded a 72 after a 34 on the back nine. He tied for second place.

Seniors Ben Lanting of Littleton, Colorodo (Front Range Christian HS), and Ben Lewis of Grand Haven, Michigan (Grand Haven HS), each recorded 73s to round out Hope's scoring.

The Flying Dutchmen also received a 78 from senior Collin Breit of Muskegon, Michigan (Western Michigan Christian HS0.

Saturday's final round tees off at 9 a.m. at Wuskowhan Players Club.
