Hope Men's Golf Wins MIAA Qualifier, Advances To Nationals For 10th Time

The Hope College men's golf team is returning to the NCAA Division III Championship for the third time in four years and 10th time in team history.

Coach Bob Ebels and the Flying Dutchmen clinched their spot in the May 12-15 national finals in Greensboro, N.C., by winning the MIAA's 54-hole, three-round qualifier.

Hope secured a first-place finish in the qualifier with a second-place effort during Saturday's round at Wuskowhan Players Club. The Flying Dutchmen recorded a team score of 301 and placed two strokes behind Trine for the day.

For the tournament, Hope's total of 873 was better than Trine (886), Calvin (907) and Adrian (933).

The Flying Dutchmen tied for 17th at the 2014 national tournament.

On Saturday, senior Ben Lewis of Grand Haven, Michigan (Grand Haven HS), led Hope with a 3-over-par 74. He was one stroke off the leaders.

Telzerow and Breit both fired 75s.

Senior Ben Lanting of Littleton, Colorado (Front Range Christian HS), rounded out the Flying Dutchmen's scoring with a 77.

Sophomore Winton Munch of Traverse City, Michigan (Central HS), had an 81.
