Junior Dion Goliday of Muskegon, Michigan (Oakridge HS), finished MIAA runner-up in the long jump to lead the Hope College men's track & field during the first day of the 124th annual MIAA Field Day on Thursday at Albion College.
The Flying Dutchmen are in fourth place heading into Friday's 10 a.m. final session with 30 points after five events.
Calvin leads with 70 points. Trine is second with 45 points and followed by Adrian (31), Hope, Albion (11), Olivet (8) and Alma (0).
Junior Matt Rolain of Rochester, Michigan (Stoney Creek HS), recorded a third-place, 10,000-meter run of 32:35.28. Sophomore Julian Morrison of Aurora, Illinois (Waubonsie Valley HS), was fifth at 32:47.23.
Senior Jacob Everly of Woodstock, Illinois (Marian Catholic Central HS), came in third in the javelin with a toss of 160-0. Sophomore Ryan Arndt of Holland, Michigan (Zeeland West HS), was seventh at 152-07.
Junior David Lunderberg of Grandville, Michigan (Grandville HS), finished sixth in the pole vault at 12-9 ½.
Freshman Jeremy Richards of Fife Lake, Michigan (Forest Area HS), was eighth in the long jump at 20-4 ½.
Hope advanced three to the 110-meter hurdle finals: sophomore Ross Whitman of Monroe, Michigan (St. Mary Catholic Central HS), in second at 15.80 seconds, Richards in fourth at 16.02, and Arndt in sixth at 16.48.
Freshman Matt Ruff of Wayne, Illinois (Wheaton Academy HS), took third during the 400-meter preliminaries with a run of 49.98 seconds.
Three qualified for the 100-meter dash finals: Boone Marois of Traverse City, Michigan (Central HS), in fourth at 11.15, junior Luke Washington of Bolingbrook, Illinois (Timothy Christian HS), in seventh at 11.34 and sophomore Matt Pelyhes of Augusta, Michigan (Gull Lake HS), in eighth at 11.38.
Three also made it to the 800-meter final: freshman Brandon Wolliston of Remus, Michigan (Chippewa Hills HS), in third at 1:57.22, sophomore Nicholas Salomon of Troy, Michigan (Detroit Jesuit HS), in fifth at 1:56.78, and sophomore Cameron Jones of Holland, Michigan (Black River HS), in sixth at 1:57.26.
Arndt and freshman Robert Schneider of Whitehall, Michigan (Whitehall HS), reached the 400-meter hurdle final. They placed second and fourth, respectively, at 57.68 and 57.96.
Pelyhes advanced to the 200-meter dash final with a fifth-place preliminary time of 22.89.
