Box Score 1 The 24th-ranked Hope College softball team ran its win streak to a season-high nine games by sweeping Kalamazoo 6-2 and 11-2 in five innings on Wednesday at Wolters Stadium.
The Flying Dutch, who debuted in the top 25 of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll earlier in the day, raised their record to 20-4 overall and 6-2 in MIAA play.
In Game 1, Hope jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on back-to-back RBI hits from senior third baseman Kelsey Cooper of Romeo, Michigan (Romeo HS) and senior designated player Julie Sobieski of St. Charles, Illinois (St. Charles East HS).
Cooper added a RBI single to cap a three-run sixth against Kalamazoo (5-13, 2-6 MIAA).
Winning pitcher Sydney Jones of South Lyon, Michigan (South Lyon East HS), allowed three hits and two runs in four innings. Jones (5-2) struck out six and walked two.
Reliever Kate Laverty of Eaton Rapids, Michigan (Eaton Rapids HS), claimed her second save of the season with three innings of two-hit relief.
In Game 2, Hope jumped ahead 6-0 with three-run rallies during the first and second innings.
Freshman second baseman Sierra Mutschler of Wayland, Michigan (Wayland HS), had a two-run single in the first.
Junior centerfielder Autumn Anderson of Dorr, Michigan (Wayland HS), delivered an RBI triple and scored on a passed ball during the second.
Winning pitcher Natalie Hiser of Westland, Michigan (Livonia Churchill HS), yielded three hits and two runs over four innings. Hiser (6-0) struck out one.
Hope returns to action on Saturday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Albion.
