Hope Softball Chosen For Sixth NCAA Division III Tournament Appearance

The Hope College softball team has been selected to play in the NCAA Division III Tournament for the sixth time in school history.

The Flying Dutch received an at-large berth on Monday and are headed to the Lake Forest, Illinois, regional.

Hope (27-9 overall) will play in the first round Wisconsin-Whitewater (36-7), champions of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Host and Midwest Conference champion Lake Forest (31-8) faces North Central, Illinois (31-7) from the College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin in the other first-round game. It is a double-elimination tournament.

Thursday, May 7
Game 1: Wisconsin-Whitewater vs. Hope, 1:00 p.m.
Game 2: North Central at Lake Forest, 3:30 p.m.

Friday, May 8
Game 3: Round 1 Winners, 11:00 a.m.
Game 4: Round 1 Losers, 1:30 p.m.
Game 5: Game 3 winner vs. Game 4 Loser, 4:00 p.m.

Saturday, May 9
Game 6: Game 3 Winner vs. Game 5 Winner, 12:00 p.m.
Game 7: Rematch of Game 6 (if necessary), 2:30 p.m.

The regional winner advances to May 15-16 Super Regionals at sites to be determined. The national finals are May 21-26 in Salem, Virginia.

Hope is one of 62 teams to comprise the field. The Flying Dutch were among 18 teams to receive Pool C at-large bids.

Hope's previous NCAA Tournament appearances came in 2006, 1996, 1995, 1992 and 1991.
