The Hope College men's cross country team came in second at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Jamboree on Saturday at West Ottawa Golf Club.
Senior Ben Zank of Midland, Michigan (H.H. Dow HS), topped the Flying Dutchmen by clocking a fifth-place, 8K time of 25 minutes, 48.1 seconds.
Hope totaled 57 points for runner-up honors in the eight-team event. Calvin won with 22. The meet counts one-third toward the overall MIAA championship.
Hope coach Mark Northuis said his runners completed their goal of competing and not worrying about times.
"They charged hard all the way to the end," Northuis said. "The hard work is paying off."
Senior Joseph Beemer of St. Joseph, Michigan (St. Joseph HS), took seventh for the Flying Dutchmen with a run of 24:49.9.
Junior Tyler Brinks of Commerce Township, Michigan (Walled Lake Northern HS), placed ninth at 25:54.1
Junior Julian Morrison of Aurora, Illinois (Waubonsie Valley HS), came in 17th with a time of 26:23.9.
Junior Leland Cook of Ada, Michigan (Forest Hills Central HS), rounded out Hope's scoring by clocking an effort of 26:28.1.
Senior Ryan Boxeth of Saline, Michigan (Saline HS), came in 28th for the Flying Dutchmen at 26:47.0.
Sophomore Ben Pederson of Mount Prospect, Illinois (Mount Prospect HS), was 29th at 26:53.3.
Hope's next race is Saturday, Oct. 3 at the Greater Louisville Invitational.
