The Hope College men's track & field team opened its first indoor season with two first-place performances and a third-place team finish at the Aquinas College Quad meet on Friday in Grand Rapids.
Junior Nicholas Salomon of Troy, Michigan (Detroit Jesuit HS) won the 800 meters with a time of 1 minute, 58.47 seconds.
Freshman Louis Kopp of Spring, Texas (Providence Classical HS) and sophomore Zach Williams of Dowagiac, Michigan (Dowagiac HS) finished 1-2 in the triple jump. Kopp leapt 43 feet, 1 inch, while Williams went 41-8 ¾.
Hope totaled 108 points and placed four points ahead of fourth-place Spring Arbor. Siena Heights (180) won, while Aquinas (141) was second.
Senior Boone Marois of Traverse City, Michigan (Traverse City Central HS) took second in the 60-meter dash at 7.07 seconds.
Senior Dion Goliday of Muskegon, Michigan (Oakridge HS) came in second in the long jump at 21-0 ¾.
Freshman Andrew Kalthoff of Carmel, Indiana (Carmel HS) finished fourth in the 1-mile run at 4:45.12.
Freshman Ryan Holman of Holmen, Wisconsin (Holmen HS) was fourth in the 3,000 meters at 9:34.88.
The Flying Dutchmen recorded a fourth-place effort in the 4 by 400 rely. Junior Cameron Jones of Holland, Michigan (Black River HS), Marois, junior Ryan Arndt of Holland, Michigan (Zeeland West HS) and Salomon went 3:35.61.
Hope returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 30 at the Grand Valley State University Lints Open.
