Hope enters with a 15-2 overall record and a second-place MIAA record of 8-1. Olivet (11-11 overall) is tied for second place in the MIAA with a 3-7 league record.
The Flying Dutch won the first meeting between the two teams 25-20, 25-20, 25-18 at Olivet on September 10. Katie Rietberg's 11 kills and Sarah Feldpausch's 10 kills topped Hope. The Flying Dutch lead the all-time series 71-4.
Setter Sophia Hackett was selected the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Volleyball Specialist of the Week on Monday. The junior from Indianapolis, Indiana (Brebeuf Jesuit) is honored for the second time this season and her career after leading the Flying Dutch to MIAA victories against Kalamazoo and Alma last week. Hackett averaged 36.5 assists, 7.5 digs and 3.5 kills over the two matches.
Hope returns to action this weekend with four matches at DeVos Fieldhouse for the Midwest Invitational. On Friday, the Flying Dutch will play Wheaton, Illinois at 4 p.m. and Heidelberg, Ohio at 8 p.m. On Saturday, Hope will meet Elmhurst, Illinois at 11 a.m. and Clarkson, N.Y. at 2 p.m.
Join us every Monday this fall for the Hope College H-Club Coaches Luncheons at Maas Auditorium. The one-hour program featuring two Hope coaches begins at noon. Cost is $10 and includes a buffet lunch. Volleyball coach Becky Schmidt's next scheduled appearance at the H-Club Luncheon is this Monday, Oct. 17.
