Boone Marois sprinted to two third-place performances at the Grand Valley State University Indoor Tune-Up on Friday.
The senior from Traverse City, Michigan (Traverse City Central HS) took third in both the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.08 seconds and the 200 meters with a run of 22.86. It was a nonscoring meet that featured NCAA Division I, III and III competitors.
Marois set a school indoor record in the 200.
Freshman Justin Freeman of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS) also reached the finals with Marois and finished ninth in both events. He went 9.21 in the 60 meters and 22.91 in the 200.
The Flying Dutchmen also placed third in the 4 by 400 meter relay. Sophomore Matt Ruff of Wayne, Illinois (Wheaton Academy), freshman Prescott Binder of Zeeland, Michigan (Zeeland East HS), junior Nicholas Salomon of Troy, Michigan (Detroit Jesuit HS) and junior Richard Medina of Bensenville, Illinois (Timothy Christian HS) posted a time of 3:28.42.
Freshmen Louis Kopp of Spring, Texas (Providence Classical) and Tucker Gibbons of Fowlerville, Michigan (Fowlerville HS) came in fourth and fifth, respectively in the triple jump at 12.64 meters (41-5 ¾) and 11.47 meters (37-7 ¾).
Kopp also went in the long jump 6.73 meters (22-1) for seventh place.
Salomon finished eighth in the 800 meters at 1:56.18.
Sophomore William Henkel of Lambertville, Michigan (Erie-Mason HS) placed eighth in the high jump at 1.85 meters (6-0 ¾), while junior Matt Pelyhes of Augusta, Michigan (Gull Lake HS) was ninth at 1.75 meters (5-8 ¾).
The Flying Dutchmen also finished eighth and ninth in the 60 meters hurdles: junior Ryan Arndt of Holland, Michigan (Zeeland West HS) at 9.15 seconds and sophomore Mitchell DePree of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian HS) at 9.29.
Senior Ben Zank of Midland, Michigan (H.H. Dow HS) took 10th in the 1-mile run at 4:23.89. Ruff was 10th in the 400 meters at 51.29 seconds.
Hope's next meet is the MIAA Indoor Championships on Saturday, Feb. 27 at Trine.
