Hope's Sarah Sheridan Adds Third 1-Meter MIAA Diving Title

Senior Sarah Sheridan of Richmond, Indiana (Richmond HS) joined Kari Jackson as Hope College's three-time Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association 1-meter diving champions on Friday.

Sheridan repeated as 1-meter league champion with a winning score of 443.90 points during the 2016 MIAA Championships at Calvin. She also won in 2015 and 2014.

"It's very exciting," Sheridan said of being MIAA champion. "There have been so many incredible moments. I think just knowing my team is cheering for me and being here with my team has made that really incredible."

Sheridan is the fourth MIAA diver to win at least three league 1-meter diving championships in a row. She joins a club that includes Calvin's Samantha Klaasen (2011-13), Calvin's Erica Deur (2006-09) and Kalamazoo's Kellie Warner (1991-93).

Jackson accomplished the feat for the Flying Dutch in 2000, 1999 and 1996.

Sheridan swept MIAA diving titles. She three-peated as 3-meter champion on Thursday.

Hope coach John Patnott said it has taken more than skill to produce the results Sheridan has.

"She's very talented, but what gets her there is her hard work and work ethic every single day," Patnott said. "She puts up those tough dives and doesn't always make them, but she's keeps at it, and that's why she's so successful."'
