Hope Men's Track & Field Second In Four Events At MIAA Indoor Championships

The Hope College men's track & field team placed second in four events and finished fourth at the inaugural Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Indoor Championships on Saturday in Angola, Indiana.

The Flying Dutchmen recorded a score of 77 points to finish ahead of fifth-place Adrian (65.5).

Hope took second in the distance medley relay. Freshman Prescott Binder of Zeeland, Michigan (Zeeland East HS), junior Cameron Jones of Holland, Michigan (Black River HS), junior Nicholas Salomon of Troy, Michigan (Detroit Jesuit HS) and senior Ben Zank of Midland, Michigan (H.H. Dow HS) went a school-record 10:30.12.

Senior Dion Goliday of Muskegon, Michigan (Oakridge HS) took second in the long jump with a leap of 6.59 meters.

Freshman Louis Kopp of Spring, Texas (Providence Classical) placed runner-up in the triple jump at 13.09 meters.

The Flying Dutchmen finished second in the 4x400 relay. Senior Gavin Midlam of East Lansing, Michigan (East Lansing HS), Jones, sophomore Matt Ruff of Wayne, Illinois (Wheaton Academy HS) and Salomon recorded a time of 3:26.73.

Sophomore Ben Pederson of Mount Prospect, Illinois (Prospect HS) ran to a fourth-place time in the 1-mile run of 4:24.43.

Sophomore William Henkel of Lambertville, Michigan (Erie-Mason HS) came in fifth in the high jump at 1.85 meters. Sophomore Zach Williams of Dowagiac, Michigan (Dowagiac HS) was eighth at 1.80.

Junior Julian Morrison of Aurora, Illinois (Waubonsie Valley HS) clocked a fifth-place run in the 5,000 meters at 15:36.99.

Freshman Justin Freeman of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS) posted a fifth-place effort in the 60-meter dash of 7.05 seconds. Senior Boone Marois of Traverse City, Michigan (Traverse City Central HS) was sixth with the same time.

Marois took fourth in the 200 meters at 22.82 seconds.

Salomon and Jones finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 800 meters, at 1:59.96 and 1:59.98.

Ruff took seventh in the 400 meters at 52.20.

Senior Taylor Myer of Ludington, Michigan (Ludington HS) finished eighth in the weight throw at 13.63 meters.

Pederson came in eighth in the 3,000 meters at 9:08.40.

Host Trine won the meet with 171 points. The Thunder finished ahead of Calvin (166.5), Albion (86), Hope, Adrian, Olivet (32) and Alma (23).
