The Hope College women's tennis team dropped its season opener to Denison, Ohio 7-2 Saturday at DeWitt Tennis Center.

The Flying Dutch earned points during the nonleague match at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles.

At No. 6 singles, Hope senior Marie Holaway of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS) outlasted Denison's Sarah Torrence 6-7 (9), 6-2, 10-7.

At No. 3 doubles, the Flying Dutch pair of junior Kate Mader of Granger, Indiana (Penn HS) and sophomore Natalie Rahrig of Fort Wayne, Indiana (Bishop Luers HS) defeated Denison's Emma Alsup and Torrence 8-6. 

Hope (0-1) returns to action on Saturday. Feb. 13 when the Flying Dutch host Case Western Reserve, Ohio at DeWitt Tennis Center at 2:30 p.m.
