Hope Men's Track & Field Wins 10 Events In Dual Meet Against Calvin

The Hope College men's track & field team won 10 events against visiting Calvin during a dual meet Friday at Buys Athletic Fields.

The Flying Dutchmen's team score was combined with the Calvin women for a 155-152 edge against the Hope women/Calvin women.

The Flying Dutchmen won the 4x100 meter relay as senior Luke Washington of Bolingbrook, Illinois (Timothy Christian HS), freshman Justin Freeman of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS), junior Matt Pelyhes of Augusta, Michigan (Gull Lake HS) and senior Boone Marois of Traverse City, Michigan (Central HS) clocked a time of 43.47 seconds.

Marois led a sweep of the 100 meters at 10.98. Freeman came in second at 11.01, while Pelyhes was third at 11.39.

Sophomore Matt Ruff of Wayne, Illinois (Wheaton Academy HS) clocked the top times in the 200 meters and 400 meters. He won the 200 in 23.18 and the 400 in 50.65.

Sophomore Brandon Wolliston of Remus, Michigan (Chippewa Hills HS) was runner-up in the 400 at 51.95.

Junior Cameron Jones of Holland, Michigan (Black River HS) finished second in the 800 at 1:56.04.

Junior Nicholas Salomon of Troy, Michigan (Detroit Jesuit HS) won the 1,500 meters with a run of 4:04.50.

Junior Julian Morrison of Aurora, Illinois (Waubonsie Valley HS) topped the field in the 3,000 meters by posting a time of 9:06.19. Freshman Andrew Kalthoff of Carmel, Indiana (Carmel HS) also scored with a third-place effort of 9:23.49.

Hope swept hurdles. Junior Ryan Arndt of Holland, Michigan (Zeeland West HS) took first in the 110-meter race at 16.47 seconds. Senior Gavin Midlam of East Lansing, Michigan (East Lansing HS) was tops in the 400-meter race at 55.31. Arndt also scored in the 400 with a third-place 58.17.

Arndt also won the javelin with a toss of 46.12 meters.

Freshman Louis Kopp of Spring, Texas (Providence Classical) won the triple jump with a leap of 13.19 meters.

Hope placed second and third in the shot put: Senior Taylor Myer of Ludington, Michigan (Ludington HS) at 12.89 meters and freshman Tyler Webb of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Grandville HS) at 12.60.

Myer was runner-up in the hammer throw at 47.11 meters.

The Flying Dutchmen finished second and third in the high jump: sophomore William Henkel of Lambertville, Michigan (Erie-Mason HS) at 1.88 meters and freshman Eddie Ip of Grand Rapids, Michigan (South Christian HS) at 1.68.

Senior Dion Goliday of Muskegon, Michigan (Oakridge HS) was runner-up in the long jump at 6.38.

Freshman Chase Gaca of Kingsley, Michigan (Kingsley HS) placed third in the discus at 36.12 meters.

Hope returns to action on Saturday, April 9 at the Michigan State Invitational.
