Men's Track & Field Sprints To 4x100 Relay Record At GVSU Al Owens Classic

The Hope College men's track & field team set a school record in the 4x100 relay at the Grand Valley State University Al Owens Classic on Saturday.

Senior Dion Goliday of Muskegon, Michigan (Oakridge HS), freshman Justin Freeman of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS), junior Matt Pelyhes of Augusta, Michigan (Gull Lake HS) and senior Boone Marois of Traverse City, Michigan (Central HS) clocked a second-place time of 41.48 seconds.

The relay passed the previous record of 42.07 that belonged to the 2010 run of Christian Everett, Josh Echtinaw, Cameron Lampkin and Kyle VanderVeen.

The nonscoring meet featured teams from NCAA Division III, Division II and Division I, and NAIA.

Junior Nicholas Salomon of Troy, Michigan (Detroit Jesuit HS) won the 800-meter run. He clocked a time of 1:51.12. He finished less than a second away from Joel Rietsema's 2012 school record of 1:50.38.

Marois placed fifth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.08 in the finals. Freeman placed eighth at 11.19.

Marois came in seventh in the 200 meter dash at 22.37.

Goliday recorded an eighth-place effort in the long jump of 6.75 meters (22 feet, 1 ¾ inches). 

Hope's next scheduled event is the Hillsdale Gina Relays on Thursday-Saturday, April 28-30.
