The Hope College men's golf team will compete with the nation's best next month after winning the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's NCAA Division III Championship qualifier on Saturday.
The Flying Dutchmen secured their third consecutive trip to nationals and 11th overall by winning the 54-hole event with a total of 880.
Hope finished ahead of Calvin (901), Trine (939) and Kalamazoo (960).
The Flying Dutchmen shot a low round of 295 during Saturday's final round.
All five golfers fired rounds of 75 or lower for coach Bob Ebels' Flying Dutchmen.
Junior Winton Munch of Traverse City, Michigan (Central HS) matched the day's best effort with a 1-over-72. He finished a 54-hole best, even-par with a total of 213 between rounds at Watermark Country Club and Wuskowhan Players Club.
Freshman Josh Gibson of Grandville, Michigan (Grandville HS) chipped in a 73. He rebounded from an 80 on Friday at Wuskowhan Players Club.
Hope's three others golfers recorded 75s: sophomore Kade Hoeksema of Byron Center, Michigan (South Christian HS), freshman Andrew Goble of Brighton, Michigan (Brighton HS) freshman Ben Kramer of Spring Lake, Michigan (Spring Lake).
The 2016 NCAA Division III Championships are May 10-13 in Rochester, N.Y. at Midvale Country Club and Mendon Golf Club.
"It's just joy right now," Munch told The Holland Sentinel. "I'm really happy. We finally get to do what we wanted to do. That's what our whole year was all about, and now we finally get to go to New York."
