Winton Munch and the Hope College men's golf team put themselves in position on Tuesday to make the 36-hole cut at the 2016 NCAA Division III Championship in Rochester, N.Y.
Led by Munch's 2-over-par 74, the Flying Dutchmen are tied for 14th place out of 41 teams at 21-over-par after the first round of competition.
Hope switches courses for the second round and tee off at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday at Mendon Golf Club. The top 15 teams make the cut for the final 36 holes on Wednesday and Thursday.

The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association-champion Flying Dutchmen completed their round at Midvale Country Club with a team score of 309. They are tied for 14th place with Middlebury, Vermont and Spalding, Kentucky, who shot 305s at Mendon Golf Club on Tuesday.
Second place sits at 13-over: St. Thomas, Minnesota. First place belongs to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, California at 2-over.
Munch, the junior from Traverse City, Michigan (Central HS) is tied for 18th place in the individual standings at 2-over. He totaled two birdies, 12 pars and four bogeys.
Two of Munch's teammates came in at 4-over: sophomore Kade Hoeksema of Byron Center, Michigan (South Christian HS) and freshman Josh Gibson of Grandville, Michigan (Grandville HS).
Hope's other two golfers in the field both shot 83s: freshmen Andrew Goble of Brighton, Michigan (Brighton HS) and Ben Kramer of Spring Lake, Michigan (Spring Lake HS).
